Exhibition
from Cape Byron School
The adolescent years are sometimes known as the ‘silent
years’. This is the time when they are developing
the powers of independent judgement, and their inner
life becomes increasingly introspective. Teaching methods
become more conceptual. Parents and teachers must develop
a new capacity to hear the young people’s unspoken
thoughts.
For the contemporary adolescent, media is an exciting and enriching field, allowing
exploration of the outer world and the inner journey. In high school we teach
the techniques of capturing and working with image, while the rich heritage of
a Steiner primary education provides the adolescent sense of spirit and enquiry.
Here are some images drawn at random from high school students at Cape Byron
Rudolf Steiner School. They have created them from different sources including
the dark room, video, and computer drawing. Let them lead you through some of
the silent speech of the teenager.
