ophia Mundi Steiner School is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic teacher with qualifications, skill and experience in Health and Physical Education.  The position, which involves teaching a range of classes both primary and secondary, is part-time, over three days per week.  The position also encompasses further developing the PE and Sports programme offered by the school.

Sophia Mundi is an independent Steiner school located in the vibrant Abbotsford Convent Precinct on the banks of the Yarra River.  An interest in Rudolf Steiner’s educational philosophy is highly desirable.  Qualification in Bothmer Gymnastics would be an advantage.

Job Description

Scope

Development and implementation of a PE programme for Sophia Mundi Steiner School, covering Primary and High School students in years 3 to 12.

Accountabilities

To create a unique and rich PE programme which:

  • Supports the objectives of the Steiner Curriculum across all year levels
  • Fits in with the natural advantages of the convent site
  • Utilises available internal space and nearby communal facilities as appropriate
  • While primarily aiming for participation, allows scope for sporting excellence to be achieved
  • Is specialist in nature rather than trying to reproduce “mainstream sports” which can be catered for out of hours
  • Is compliant with all State and Federal curriculum requirements

Objectives

  • Select the range of sports to be included and a timetable for implementation
  • Secure parental support and participation both within and after school hours as appropriate
  • Identify participation opportunities/events with other Steiner and non Steiner schools
  • Engender a wider spirit of enthusiasm and personal development within the student body
